Tokyo Travelogue Day 1: Shinjuku
Japan was such an amazing place, if I died and went to heaven, I would want to be reborn in Japan.
I love the mixture of modern yet traditional culture, the basic courtesy and manners that the Japanese have and get no matter where you go. Been lost countless times in Japan, and I never fail to have a Japanese to point me the way or even bring me to the doorstep of the mrt station just out of pure kindness.
Whats to hate about Japan? Nothing in my honest opinion. I love this place so much I dreaded the day I had to grab my flight back to Singapore.
I started the trip from the Narta Airport, taking the NEX (Narita Express Train) to Shinjuku, one of the fastest and cheapest way to get to town. The train was awesomely comfortable with leg room so wide I cant event kick the seat in front of me. Thats was how good it is!
Ride past one of the many gorgeous fields which lined the Railway track. The ride which took 45mins – 60mins was just plain lovely and I was raring to go!
Dragged my huge-ass luggage through Shinjuku Station to catch the Toei Subway to Higashi Shinjuku, so that I can step into the lovely Higashi-Shinjuky Sunroute Hotel, my home for 3 nights!
It is located just 10 steps away from the Higashi Shinjuku Station exit, it has brought me alot of convenience whenever I had to travel to all the main attractions!
Small but well equipped, this stay cost me SGD101 per night, which is really cheaper considering its near proximity to Shinjuku area, where the hotels easily cost more than SGD140 a night. I had Kaiyi crashing in on the 2nd/3rd night so it was significant cost savings for me.
Travel tip: I booked it as a single person stay, and my friend joined me snarkily which saved as SGD 20 bucks a night.
Highly recommended for budget and couple travellers. If you want this place just for a comfortable rest and bath and you dont need gorgeous scenary out of your windows.
Clean sheets with contour pillows, sleeping gowns, bedroom slippers and free cable internet access (which is pretty darn fast), whats not to love about this place?
Bathroom came with a bidet (The ass-cleaner as I like to call it) and a really deep bathtub which lets me soak all the aches and soreness I was going to experience over the next few days. Oh! Complimentary shiseido face wash which saved my face from cracking throughout their entire trip!
Decided to headed out to Shinjuku, and the hotel staff were really awesome to give me some maps to show me where are the nearest restaurants and how to walk to the Shinjuku town! Took me about 10-15 minutes of slow walking to reach the place. It is that near!
Didnt managed to snap much photos of cause most of the shops were close and only managed to step into a few outlets which were just a-okay. Grab a couple of necklaces in H&M for $13 a piece and I was done shopping for the day.
Filled my rumbling tummy at Yayoiken Restuarant which looks quite promising which the number of patron in there.
Had to place my order at the vending machine!
Slotted in a 1000yen note and after I selected one disk, no money came out and I thought it doesnt provide change! Until i saw a man at the next machine pressing a lever after he ordered to get his change.
In my blurness, I paid 2.5 bucks more for a puny tuna salad.
My Tuna Sashimi Rice Bowl which was Ooooo soooo yummy. I swear the Japanese must have done something to their rice. WHY IS IT SO NICE AND FLUFFY ALL THE TIME!
Dont be mislead by the appearance but there was loads to tuna in that bowl that I was having massive tuna-induced orgasms on the spot. SUPER SHIOK!
Headed to a nearby supermarket and got this pudding which was 250yen, about SGD4.50 and it was soooooo good I slurped it all up within seconds! Wanted to grab a few tub before I left Japan but time wasnt on my side =(
Being the glutton that I am, I headed over the Mcdees nearby to grab their Shaka Shaka Chick and Bacon Potato Pie.
LOVE SHAKA SHAKA CHICKEN! SOOOOO YUMMMYYYY the meat is ultra soft to the max! The bacon potato pie was so so.. Must still pretty tasty if you are looking for something to fill you up.
After being a pig by filling up my belly with shiok-a-nathan food, I took a soak in my bathtub and prepared for the eventful Tokyo Day 2 with awesome good night sleep =)
Tokyo Day 2 coming right up!
